Cross Creek Shoeing

The following is a short case study of a three-year-old Quarter Horse gelding with traumatized heel bulbs in both hind hooves. This horse presented with extremely flat and bruised soles, and was walking on his heel bulbs. Shoes were applied to his hinds and within one cycle (approx. 8 weeks) his hooves had already shown dramatic improvement in sole depth and heel length. Click on Photos to see a larger image.

Before: After:

Ruler helps to show lack of concavity (no sole depth) and extremely low heels.

After first Shoeing interval, this horse has grown an adequate amount of heel and has a much better hoof angle.

Before trimming - note the bruising evident in the sole.

Sole depth and concavity restored - bruising has already grown out. Now he has a much healthier frog and sole.

Minimal concavity achieved before applying shoes. Bruising is more evident after trimming.
