Cross Creek Shoeing

The following is a short case study of an older Thoroughbred mare with crushed, under-run heels, long toe and thin soles. Shoeing cycle for this mare was done at 6 week intervals. The time between the before and after photographs was 3 cycles (approx 18 weks total). Click on Photos to see a larger image.

LF - solar view.

LF - Solar View Improvement in solar depth and heel angle.

LF - Lateral view. Note crushed (under-run) heels and long toe.

LF - Lateral View - Improved heel angle and toe length.

View of both fronts from behind. Note low crushed heels (esp. RF)

LF - Lateral view - shod hoof. Aluminum bar shoe to aid in better hoof angle and pad to provide support for the sole and frog.

RF - Solar View. Crushed heels, lack of sole depth.

RF - Solar View - Heels have improved, better sole depth and concavity. Discolored areas are old trauma.

RF - Lateral View - crushed heels, very long toe.

RF - Lateral View. Much better toe length, some continued improvement on heel angle.

RF - Lateral View after trimming - Still a poor hoof angle, but some improvement.
RF - Shod. Aluminum bar shoe to improve hoof angle, pad to support sole and frog.
